Tranexamic Acid

What is tranexamic acid?

Tranexamic acid is a synthetic analogue of the amino acid lysine that interferes with the chemical pathway that produces melanin. This cutting-edge active ingredient in skin brightening technology is already widely used in Southeast Asia to even out the complexion by targeting dark spots. Products containing tranexamic acid have been shown to help lighten areas affected by discolouration, including melasma and age spots.

In-vitro testing has shown that subjects who used tranexamic acid for 8 weeks noted a reduction in the appearance of spots and pigmentation with no significant side effects.

Is tranexamic acid suitable for my skin?

Tranexamic acid has an excellent safety profile for use in skin care and is well tolerated by most skin types. It is recommended for pigmentation, age spots and melasma. Unlike other acids, it is not an exfoliant. It prevents hyperpigmentation by inhibiting melanin production.

Can tranexamic acid be used with other products?

Tranexamic acid works well in combination with other products. It is gentle enough to combine with other key actives such as retinol and vitamin C.

How often should I apply tranexamic acid?

You will see the best results if you regularly apply a product containing tranexamic acid.

Our Exaglow S10 Serum contains stabilised vitamin C and 5% tranexamic acid, which work to diminish the appearance of skin discolouration, pigmentation, melasma and age spots, so your skin appears more luminous and even. Apply to clean skin twice a day, concentrating on dark spots and follow with your favourite moisturiser.
