    Chamomile

    WHAT IS CHAMOMILE?

Chamomile is a potent antioxidant that helps to improve skin’s overall condition and appearance. Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, it is one of the most popular cosmetic ingredients for sensitive skin. As the scent of chamomile has a calming effect upon the mind and body, it is traditionally used in aromatherapy. The benefits of chamomile have been described in ancient Egyptian, Greek and Roman medical texts. It has long been used to help treat digestive ailments, aid wound healing, relieve anxiety, and to ease skin conditions such as acne and eczema.

Chamomile contains many active ingredients. Most notable of these are chamazulene, which gives chamomile its blue colour and has anti-inflammatory properties; and bisabolol, a compound with anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.

Of the many varieties of chamomile, the most commonly used are Roman chamomile (anthemis nobilis) and German chamomile (matricaria chamomilla). The essential oil is extracted from chamomile flowers through steam or other means of distillation. Facetheory uses chamomile extracted by carbon dioxide, which helps it to retain high concentration.

IS CHAMOMILE SUITABLE FOR MY SKIN TYPE?

Chamomile is compatible with all skin types, including sensitive and acne-prone skin.

CAN CHAMOMILE BEN USED ALONGSIDE OTHER PRODUCTS

Chamomile works well in combination with other products as it is thought to help the skin to absorb other ingredients. It is safe for use alongside other key actives.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I USE CHAMOMILE?

Products containing chamomile can be used several times a day. Facetheory uses CO2-extracted chamomile, which is highly concentrated and contains a range of flavonoids, including quercetin and apigenin. Ocuwake Eye Cream EYE1 contains chamomile extract and can be applied in the morning and at bedtime.
